Remote Care During COVID-19

On March 15, 2020, Governor Charlie Baker mandated that all Massachusetts insurance plans, including self-funded plans, commercial insurance plans, Medicaid, and Group Insurance Commission insurance plans, pay for all medically-necessary, clinically appropriate telehealth services, even if a provider is not usually able to perform telehealth services. On Tuesday, March 17, 2020, President Trump announced that Medicare patients are eligible for "e-visits" to physical therapists, if the patient is already established at the clinic.

  1. What is a telehealth visit?

    1. Telehealth is a doctor's office performed via telephone or video call.

  2. Who can have a telehealth visit?

    1. Until Governor Baker's mandate is lifted, anyone may have a telehealth appointment during this time, by any licensed provider offering them.

    2. For physical therapy visits, the patient must be an established patient at the clinic - in other words, this cannot be your first visit.

  3. What does it cost me?

    1. Costs for telehealth visits are the same as if you were to come into the office, with one possible exception:

      1. Since this is mandated by the Massachusetts governor and applies to Massachusetts only, patients with out-of-state insurance (usually Blue Cross and Blue Shield) may or may not be covered under this mandate. If your employer is based in Massachusetts, you do not need to be concerned regardless of your insurance company.

  4. How do I set up a telehealth appointment with FYZICAL?

    1. Ask! Just like you'd schedule an in-person appointment in our office, give us a call or let us know the next time you are in that you'd like your next appointment to be telehealth.

  5. What do I need for a telehealth visit?

    1. A computer with a webcam or your smartphone for a video call.

  6. How do I access my telehealth appointment?

    1. Before your appointment, you will receive an email from our office with the link to use.

    2. Just before your appointment time, click the link given, or copy and paste it into your browser. Doxy.me, the HIPAA-compliant website we have chosen, is available via Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. (Download Chrome here or Firefox here.)

    3. The Enter your name, click "check in," and your physical therapist will be with you shortly!

  7. How do I pay for my visit?

    1. Our normal policy is to ask patients to choose a payment method after their initial evaluation - payment per visit or a monthly charge. If you chose to put a credit card on file for a monthly single charge, you do not need to do anything differently. If you chose to pay per visit, our front office will contact you approximately 15 minutes before your telehealth appointment and can take debit or credit cards over the phone. A receipt can be emailed to you if you would like.

  8. Who do I ask about other questions?

    1. Contact Business Manager Lauren Abelow at 508-650-0060 or LaurenA@fyzicalmetrowest.com.

If this is an emergency, please call 911.
